D&B National Business Expectations Survey
Every month D&B Australasia conduct a National Business Expectations Survey. Each quarter over 1,200 business owners and senior executives representing major industry sectors across Australia are asked if they expect increases, decreases or no changes in their upcoming quarterly Sales, Profits, Employment, Capital Investment, Inventories and Selling Prices. Since its introduction in Australia in 1988, the survey has proven to be a highly reliable measure of economic performance.
Each quarter D&B asks a sample of executives in manufacturing, wholesaling and retailing businesses across Australia if they expect an increase, decrease or no change in their quarter - ahead sales, profits, employees, capital investment, inventories and selling prices compared with the same quarter a year ago.
The D&B index figures are the net percentage of respondents expecting higher sales, profits, etc. Each index in calculated by subtracting the percentage of respondents expecting decreases from the percentage expecting increases. The executives are also asked for actual changes over the twelve months to the latest completed quarter. Since the middle of 1999, D&B has been obtaining about 300 responses each month of the quarter, rather than some 900 responses in the third month of each quarter. From September 2000, responses have been obtained from 400 executives each month.
D&B Trade Payment Analysis
Generated from the D&B Trade Information Program the Trade Payment Analysis is published annually. The Trade Information Program at D&B collects the business to business age trial balances of medium to large companies on a monthly basis. This data is cross-matched to D&B's extensive database and makes up 98% of D&B's trade database, giving an objective view on how companies pay their accounts. Each year, D&B processes over eight million trade and credit references, giving D&B Australia the most comprehensive record of business to business transactions in the country.
