Authentication process

Subscribers to the PTG service are authenticated and verified at the time of registration to ensure:

  • the validity of the business,
  • the identity of the employee registering
  • the authorisation of the employee to act on behalf of the business

This is done because it is important for users to know that listings are who they say they are. This ability to authenticate a business and validate an employee's status within the corporation is the first step to allow trust to occur between businesses.

The steps that are followed are:

  1. Customer fills in registration application
    • Business details: D-U-N-S, Business name, department, contact details, address, phone
    • User details: phone number, applicants name, E-mail, Phone
  2. Customer submits application details

Then, D&B commences authentication & verification process:

First, the business identity is verified:

  1. a DUNS® Number Lookup is conducted - DUNS® Number not found then conduct a business investigation and authenticate the business
  2. DUNS® Number found then note DUNS® Number
  3. Company is verified as a real business in the D&B global database. - Company is investigated if the business does not already exist in the D&B database.

If the business is found to be a legally trading entity that is registered and solvent, then verification proceeds.

Next, the user's identity is verified:

  1. D&B performs an outbound telephone calls to confirm that the user is an active and authorized employee of the company
  2. In order to verify that the applicant is really who he or she claims to be, a trained investigation specialist will make the following checks:
    • Contact the applicant's company using the company phone number found in the D&B database.
    • Talk to an individual who can verify employment, such as a member of the Human Resources or Payroll department or another administrator.
    • Confirm that the applicant is an active employee of the company and that the application information is accurate.

Once this process is completed, the subscriber is sent their administration password to the service, allowing them to set up the system details and start using the service.
